Growing up an ocean apart...

Julie's arrival in the US...

Let's fast forward a few years to the time Julie and Paul's paths finally crossed. Really, if it wasn't for single payer health care systems, they might not have ever met despite living in the same building. Julie had just begun med school at NYU, and as an eager 1st year med student, wanted to be involved in many things and signed up to attend a single payer advocacy conference at Mount Sinai Medical School. At the same time, Paul was taking classes for his MPH; one night after class, he went for a few beers with some like-minded fellow liberal policy nerds who convinced him to attend the same advocacy meeting at Mt. Sinai the following day. There, on a Saturday morning in late September of 2012, Julie first laid eyes on a tall handsome lad. She spent hours during the morning talks coming up with different strategies for approaching him. Later, while standing in line for Pad Thai, she got a closer look at the tall handsome guy: his name tag read "Paul Joudrey, NYU School of Medicine"! She was so excited to realize that they were from the same school that she immediately said hi. Later, when they were both leaving Mt. Sinai to head back downtown, they paused by Julie's bike parked on the street. Paul thought: "What a cool girl, she rides a bike around the city!". So when Julie asked for him number, he didn't hesitate. And the rest is history:

Julie introduced Paul to all things Hungarian:

And finally, they made it to Hungary together

Paul tried very hard to blend in with the Europeans...

...and they have been having a blast ever since...
